DeLand Storm-Damaged Trees: What to Do First

After tree damage, the first priority is keeping people away from the hazard—not getting a closer photo or moving a branch yourself.

Keep People and Pets Clear of Storm-Damaged Trees

Move people and pets away from fallen trees, suspended branches and new leans. Do not stand beneath damaged limbs or attempt to cut a loaded trunk.

Report electrical danger

Treat downed wires as energized. Stay away from any tree, fence or vehicle that may be in contact with a wire. Contact the utility and call 911 for immediate danger.

Describe the situation by phone

Give the exact address, what the tree has contacted, whether access is blocked and what hazards are visible from a safe location. Do not use a form when the situation is urgent.

Plan follow-up work separately

Emergency hazard work, debris removal, stump grinding and property repairs may be separate steps. Confirm scope and keep documentation for your insurer.
